As far as I am aware if you are just in transit anf do not plan on passing through immigration (stay in the airport through out) you will not be asked for a visa. If ELAL is the service provider for both flights then it their responsabilty to inform you if you. As suggested by others it is best to make sure via the Israel Embassy in Mumbai.

Many may not be open given the near-total halt to tourism, and some are sheltering evacuees from the South as well.
Markets are for tourists and locals alike. Jerusalem and Tel Aviv both have major open air markets called ‘the shuk ’. Here you can sample fresh produce, sweets, bargain for a shirt or backgammon board, or sip a refreshing fresh juice – shoulder-to-shoulder with locals (especially on Friday when everyone is shopping for Shabbat dinner).
